HULL CLEANING

HULL CLEANING According to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), hull cleaning can reduce gas emissions in a range of 1%-10%. The same can be said for propeller polishing which can reduce gas emissions by 2% - 5% and when executed on a regular periodical basis; 2.5% - 8%. With the new regulations being adopted by the IMO in 2023 regarding decarbonization through ship emissions, a trusted underwater service partner who can deliver reliable services around the globe will be paramount to ensure your vessel performance remains in the Carbon Intensity Index (CII) acceptable range of A,B, or C.  Subsea Global Solutions has several solutions available for Biofouling/Coating Management, Environmentally Friendly Hull maintenance and Propeller Polishing.

Regulatory Procedures of Biofouling Management, Hull Cleaning and Propeller Maintenance

Subsea Global Solutions understands the constraints established by regulatory bodies around the world. We develop biofouling and maintenance management procedures that comply with the requirements of the local port, individual state or international environmental regulatory bodies. Subsea Global Solutions has developed Biofouling Management Plans as well as Hull Cleaning and Propeller Maintenance management procedures for locations that previously banned this type of service.  By addressing the concerns raised by the regulatory bodies and putting in mitigation plans, Subsea Global Solutions has been granted procedure approval for the hull maintenance of some coatings with vessels that are managed as a part of our Fuel Management Program; assuring minimal fouling (micro-fouling only). Subsea Global Solutions has also worked closely with regulators in New Zealand to develop Niche Cleaning Processes as well as approved biofouling and niche area inspection reports that can be used as documented evidence of Niche Area Inspections performed according to recently established guidelines.  By managing the vessels biofouling, and the hull and propeller maintenance, Subsea Global Solutions is able to provide an approved maintenance program that drives down an operator's operating cost and improves vessel efficiency.

EnviroHull Filtration System

For locations with regulations focused on Aquatic Invasive Species (IAS) and the release of particulates to the environment, Subsea Global Solutions developed the EnviroHull. It features a spoils recovery vacuum system and spoils filtration system that processes the water on the surface in a contained system and returns filtered water back to the environment.  This system has been tested successfully in Alameda, California and is also approved for use in Busan, South Korea. The EnviroHull system is a multi-stage filtration system capable of operating continuously during underwater hull cleaning, niche area cleaning or propeller polishing. The EnviroHull system is always considered for locations that require biofouling management, hull cleaning spoils recovery, and particulate matter filtration.  The EnviroHull technology is compact, simple and easy to operate in either a trailer mounted or vessel mounted configuration.

Cleaning ROV (C-ROV) Systems

For locations where diver operated systems are considered unsuitable, Subsea Global Solutions operates remote operated vehicles, simply called the cleaning ROV, or C-ROV/CROV for short.  There are two main in-house designed and built systems currently used, which comply with local authority requirements and regulations. ECOFRIENDLY C-ROV, uses filtration systems with low- and high-pressure filtration, and UV treatment.  These are designed for elimination of biofouling and prevent aquatic invasive species transfer, the systems use a reclaim system for in-water cleaning and capture (IWCC), with multi-stage filtration of particulate matter down to 1 micron and render waste effluent “inert” prior to cleaned water return.  The biofouling waste retrieved is recycled within a certified biomass to biofuel process.  To comply with our own internal policies periodical water sampling is also undertaken, with samples evaluated by external certified analysis.  This configuration is medium truck transportable, and can be run from quayside, workboat or barge mounted - making it suitable for regional use if required. PORTABLE C-ROV, this highly portable and air transportable variant forgoes the reclaim system as these are deployed to clean vessels and vessel-like structures on location, before they move, these units are also capable of cleaning heavy macrofouling. Typically deployed for offshore units like semi-submersibles, Floating Production Storage and Offtake (FPSO) and FSO’s, their high-definition real-time video also acts as part of an underwater inspection team when deployed with our Observation ROV’s which are able to access niche areas underwater, or as part of a combined ROV and diver project team.   .

Eco-friendly Propeller Polishing

The Beluga Eco-friendly cleaning system was designed to manage the ever increasing threat of invasive species and—if needed, to also treat soluble metals that may be present in effluent water. With filtration capabilities currently down to 5 microns, the Beluga system has interchangeable tools that can be connected to it for the execution of hull niche area cleaning or eco-friendly propeller polishing.
